2011年草场地摄影季艺术节在盛大的开幕式中宣布开始，成为北京艺术界的一大盛事。开幕当天即吸引了8000名观众，开幕周期间有25000名观众，而就整个展期而言，共有35000名观众参加了艺术节。这是一次巨大的成功！在长达六周的展期期间，观众们欣赏到三十多个世界级的摄影作品及摄影领域相关的展览，同时也参加了许多由主办方精心筹划的高端文化活动。
2011草场地摄影季艺术节的开幕式当天，有三位年轻的新人摄影师获奖：陈哲荣获三影堂摄影奖，奖金为80000人民币现金，储楚获得资生堂最佳女性摄影师大奖，洛丹获得价值5000美元的特尼基金会奖学金，并或有机会在纽约参展。
开幕周的重头活动包括：艺术家工作室开放日、国际摄影专家见面交流会、由三方（美术馆、企业/基金会及私人收藏家）参加的国际摄影收藏研讨会。在开幕周期间，观众们获得了与中国以及国外摄影专业人士交流的机会。
开幕周期间，草场地的画廊组织了摄影讲座与对话、摄影棚工作室参观、作品讨论会，以及夜间电影现场播放及音乐会等多项活动。
Beginning with a tremendous opening day, the 2011 Caochangdi PhotoSpring Festival took Beijing’s art scene by storm. More than 8,000 visitors attended opening day, 25,000 visitors participated in the opening week, and 35,000 visitors came to exhibitions and events during the entire festival.
On the opening day of the 2011 Caochangdi PhotoSpring festival, awards were given to three young emerging artists: Chen Zhe won The Three Shadows Photography Award and an 80,000 RMB cash prize, Chu Chu won the Shiseido Prize for Best Female Photographer and a 20,000 RMB prize, and Luo Dan won the Tierney Foundation Fellowship, which provides US$5000 to support a new body of work, and the opportunity to exhibit that work in New York City.
During the opening week some notable events were artist open studios, portfolio reviews by a panel of international photography professionals, and a three-part symposium on photography collecting practices among museums, corporations, and private collections. Visitors throughout the opening week had the opportunity to meet photography professionals from China and abroad.
Caochangdi’s galleries bustled with lectures, workshops, round-table discussions, and lively evening film screenings, and concerts. During the six weeks of the festival the public viewed over thirty world-class photography exhibitions, and take part in a series of unique cultural events.
